Rare Art Sculpture Story by Felecia Poku
Artwork is considered priceless to many art lovers. Therefore, when a customer purchase artwork locally or internationally, the shipping company must handle the product with an outstanding level of care.
During the fall of 2020, the rare piece of exquisite art sculpture that I dreamed of finally arrived from Galerie Kamel Mennour, located in Paris. My heart was dancing with excitement as I envision this rare piece adorning my mantle over the fireplace. So, I proceeded to unravel the securely tight sealed cardboard box with caution. As I inched from corner to corner, unraveling durable packing tape that secured the box, my heartbeat increased uncontrollably. My hands shook frantically, making it quite challenging to remove the last piece of tape. After taking a long deep breath, I finally was able to behold this magnificent piece of art that I saved $1500 over the past year to get.
Oh no! My heart sank to the floor as I peered inside the container to get a closer look. I had to examine the figure closer to make certain I wasn't hallucinating. How could this happen? "Someone has to pay," I fluttered with tears streaming down my face. The Ermanno Nason Murano Hand Blown Glass Sculpture Abstract Figure was chipped on two sides, disfiguring the sculpture's head.
I investigated the inside of the box for answers amid my tears and a broken heart. I had to find the reason or reasons as to why my Ermanno Nason Murano Hand Blown Glass Sculpture was damage. After taking a closer look inside the container that housed my precious glass sculpture, I concluded that the figure should have been wrapped with bubble wrap in addition to the cheese puff shape Styrofoam packing that was inside the box. I also believe that the glass sculpture should have been secured to the base by using some form of sticky rubbery glue to help prevent any movement within the container. This rubbery glue adhesive substance could be easy removed without causing any damage to the artwork. In addition, I believe that if the company had taken extra steps in securing my rare Ermanno Nason Murano Hand Blown Glass Sculpture from France, my priceless art sculpture would have arrived to me as I envisioned it that day I first laid eyes on it.
After collecting my emotions, I contacted Intl Sea Shipping Company, whom I hired. I trusted to deliver my rare Nason Murano Hand Blown Glass Sculpture from France to express my dismay in delivering my product. I emphasized to them that extra care should have been taken to ensure the safe arrival of my product. Although, they apologized for the damage to my art sculpture and stated that the insurance would reimburse me for the product. I concluded my conservation with Intl Sea Shipping company as I sincerely expressed that money could not replace the priceless value of my Nason Murano Hand Blown Glass Sculpture.
